He spent the first two days of his life in the hospital with me. We did perfect. Nothing wrong at all. We were breastfeeding well and everything. When we got home on the 5th of May we did good. All he wanted to do was sleep. We could barely wake him to eat and when we did he only ate about an 1/2 an ounce at a time over a span of waking him up every few sucks for an hour. We figured it was normal because he was so premature.
We had his first appointment May 7. They did all there checks. He seemed fine. His weight was okay, they were impressed on his size. He was almost back up to his birth weight come to our surprise. Everything was fine and we were cleared to go home and not come back until he was two months old. Me being the over concerned knowledgeable mom that I am asked a bunch of questions. One of them being why his temperature was not checked. I really never got my answer, but they sent in a nurse to check it. My son had his temperature taken at least 8 different times by 2 different thermometer. My poor child's butt. =/ Well now you are wondering why so many times when they were not concerned in the first place. Right? Well his temperature was down at 93*. If it went any lower his organs would had begun shutting down. That was the explanation why he wasn't eating well. I only wonder if I did not ask all my questions what would have happened. so never be afraid to ask! And remember a mother always knows best.
We rushed Bentley to a local hospital that had a pediatrics unit so he could be watch more closely. We at first were placed in a room that had a toddler "cage", a nice bed for me, and a rocking chair. After being there about 2 hours and two forced feeds they tried to take blood to do a bunch of tests. They pricked him 3 time and were unable to get blood each time. Also he felt no pain. I was scared to death as any mother being told that would have felt. They then took the cage and replaced it with a double wall incubator. That rose his temperature enough to get the blood flowing more freely. They took 8 tubes from a vein in his tiny head [heart breaking]. We kept him in the incubator unless he was being fed. He only had his heart monitor and his heating element and it was still heart breaking. The next day all his results came back. They were all perfect!!! We were relieved but at the same time it worried us even more because no one knew what was wrong. We were in there a full week. They lowered the temperature in the incubator one degree every 4 hours and made sure he was able to hold his temperature. If his temperature dropped they put it up 2 degrees and tried again in 4 hours. We were released May 12th.
-To any parents that have there children placed in incubators for any amount of time for any reason. Make sure they clean them out in front of you! Bentley slept with tubes of blood and needles under the bed of it. They do not house premature babies so they do not unscrew the pieces and if something is dropped it is in there until it breaks down. EWW!
So we were sent home from there. We were living with my dad. Me, Johnny, Bentley, and my dad. We slept in the living room because he only has a one bedroom apartment. Well my dad decided it was a good idea to kick Johnny out of the house. We lived in 2 different houses for a week and my dad would not allow Johnny in to see me and his son. Well I had it with that. I told my dad that either he let Johnny back into the house or I was gone. Well guess what I moved. We were a no income family after the move. No means to support our selves so it was a struggle everyday!
