Here is our diaper bag.. Wipes, diapers, wet bag, snacks & a drink Super simple but it works for our 17 month old. If we're gone for long sports we bring more diapers but that's about all.. Did you know 1 of 3 family's struggle to diaper there children? Diapers are not part of any low income assistance programs by the government. Disposable diapers are not cheap but because diapers have become a necessity from birth threw potty training some family's try to stretch the amount of time they leave the baby in a diaper. Leaving a baby in a soiled diaper can lead to infections and rashes. Why not try another option? Modern cloth diapers can get expensive, but it doesn't have to be. For a little over 50$ you could have enough flats and covers for a single baby for 1 or 2 days. To cloth diaper comfortably for one day you need about 15 flats and 3 covers. For a bonus money saver you can use cloth wipes! You can get them any where from 0-$2 per wipe. For the cheapest option you can get 50+ wipes out of a $2 cotton sheet.. Flats can be store bought, flour sack towels or even t-shirts. If you use old t-shirts or ones from a second hand store you can spend any where from 0-$8. Flower sack towels run 10 for $12 in my area. Store bought flats vary quite a bit. And covers very from $5-$25 new and I have seen them as low as $2. Flats can also easily be hand washed. Much easier then other types of cloth diapers as they are thinner wash out better and dry very fast. This can also save additional money. You need minimal supplies to do this at home and only cost pennies per load! You will need: Laundry detergent $2+ Bucket or utility sink $5+ Plunger $4+ Gloves $2+ How to wash in 5ish steps: 1.. Pre-pre-rinse- with cold water rinse solids from your diapers (and wipes). Wring out and place where your going to store until wash time. 2.. Pre-rinse- with cold water rinse one more time to get any of the left over yuck off. Fill your bucket with your diapers put enough water to cover them and you can either plunge or use your hands to agitate them. Then Wring out everything again and empty your bucket. 3.. Wash- again place diapers in bucket and put enough hot water until it covers them. Then add a tablespoon or 2 of laundry soap then again you must agitate. After agitating Wring out the diapers and empty bucket. You may want to repeat this process 2 or more times to make sure you get them clean! 4.. Rinse- take your wringed it diapers and place them again in the bucket with clean water and agitate so done of the soap comes out. This has to be repeated until there is no more soap bubbles coming from the diapers 5.. Drying- your finial step is to shake it and either hand or lady dry Think you could do it? If you try leave us a comment and let us know what you do with your cloth diapers or any tips and tricks you learn! We have 22 flats and prefolds, 30 other inserts and boosters, 40 pockets, 9 covers 12 other random diapers and 3 wet bags. We only use all the prefolds and flats, about 5 boosters, 6 pockets and 5 covers, and of course all 3 wet bags on a weekly basis.. This week we are using about 11 flats (old t-shirts.. About $3 total from a second hand store) and e happy flute covers ($18 total new) and about 36 wipes (old t-shirts about $2 from the second hand store) so 25$ budget you can have 1 day of cloth diapering.. My friends think I'm crazy! And you know what? That's fine by us! We cloth diaper! Yes cloth! (some of you know that but our new readers may not) What is cloth diapering? We put diapers on our princess that are reusable and not filled with harsh chemicals then we wash and reuse! Why in the would would you want to do that? We would rather not have a bunch of harsh chemicals on our babies bottoms. Plus it's better for our environment! We are taking this challenge to show that cloth diapering is plausible anywhere!
Are you a family that often has to choose between clean diapers and food? Well it doesn't have to be that way! Follow us this week and you will get a few tips |
