April.28.2011 I found out I was pregnant with our 4th child. I was due Jan.4.2012 we were scared and excited. Through the whole pregnancy I had this strong feeling the baby was a boy. So during my first ultrasound when my ob said it’s a GIRL I made him double check lol. And sure enough he said he seen the three lines. We were excited, we were gonna have 2 girls and 2 boys. We went out and bought all PINK. We chose to name her Alizabeth Caeleigh Grace Allaire and having a C-section Dec.29.2011. I had another ultrasound at 28 weeks and sure enough still girl. So I spent the next few weeks trying to convince myself the baby was a girl. I couldn’t bring myself to believe this.Dec.5.2011 I went into labor. I was 35 weeks 5 days. The on call ob thought I could have a normal delivery if the baby wasn’t too big. So we had one more ultrasound. He said baby was about 7 lbs. 2 oz. he asked so what are you having.. I said "GIRL" he said "umm it’s a BOY." What no I have had two ultrasounds and they said girl. He says there’s his boy parts it’s a BOY lol. I chose to continue and have the C-section. Nathan Andrew James Allaire was born Dec.5.2011 at11:18 pm weighing 6 lbs. 11.9 oz. and 19" long. He had Brown hair blue eyes and perfect. He had to go to NICU because he had some breathing problem following the C-section. He spent 7 days there and came home Dec.12.2011. We all were soexcited and had set up for Dec.16 for him to meet our family at my birthday dinner. The next few days were perfect. He was eating good 2-3 ounces every 2-3 hours he was gaining weight and happy. Had wake up at 4 am to eat and stay awake tell 5:30 are and he had to be held the whole time.. The morning of Dec.16 we woke up to feed him but he didn’t want to eat, he was looking pale and was not happy. So mommy took him to the ER. He was almost instantly put on a ventilator and antibiotics and ran a few tests. They tested him for RSV and pneumonia both came back fine. The doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong so they admitted him. He seemed to be doing better. When we touched him he was finally responding. He would just look around the room. Then at 2:45 he started to crash. Mommy had to leave the room I couldn’t watch what they were doing to my baby. Luckily he had my mom his dad and my sisters there with him. They did CPR for 45 min. I remember hearing CODE BLUE to his room and my heart stopped. A family friend who happened to work there came to me and said she was VERY sorry. I said why he’s not gone he’s still fighting. Then the nurse came to me and took me into a room and said I’m sorry we did all we could he’s not going to make it please go hold your baby. So I went to Nathans room and picked himup and held him. I remember I kept thinking if I hold him he'll want to fight he'll pull through, then his lips moved and I got excited. But the doctor camein to listen for his heart beat and said I’m sorry he’s gone. I just rocked him wishing it was a dream. Everyone kept telling me it’s your birthday god wouldn’t take him and sure enough he did. We had to do an autopsy to find out why he died and he said it started off as Strep A then turned into pneumonia and then sepsis. And all this happened in the short 4 days he was home. We had Nathan cremated and home for Christmas then his service was Jan.4.2012 on his duedate.
Our Page requested this family to share there story with us!
Mothers day 2011 I had a funny feeling like butterflies in my tummy.. Took a pregnancy test next day and it instantly went positive I was so happy scared and excited as we had a 15 month old boy took a blood test at the doctors and they said I was 4 weeks along so they wanted me to do an ultrasound... Found out at 6 weeks were were not having A baby but twins!! What a shocker!! But then at 12 weeks I started bleeding heavily doctor said more likely I had lost one or both of the babies so another u/s showed I had a sub chronic bleed right by baby A (Odin) he still had a heartbeat by 13 weeks I ha an ob/gyn appoint and he had searched for both heartbeat's but could only find one we were not too worried yet, but at the next appoint at 15 weeks again we couldn't hear it and was told that we had lost him. So I had mourned for him. That same week I had an incident and got kicked in the stomach! Worried for my surviving child I called 911 and had an emergency u/s done I was in so much pain and doctors were telling me I will miscarry the surviving twin most likely.. But that the womb is strong and to not worry.. (After telling me that how can I not) once we saw that BOTH babies were ok and LIVING we were happy.... But the ultra sound technician spent an extra hr on us for reasons unknown ATM - we were told to wait in the office- that's when our world shattered. the doctor told us our son had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) and what it was most likely he would not be born alive!! But if he was there was surgery available.. but because she was only an emergency doctor she couldn't tell us for sure so we got sent to a specialist and to have another ultra sound but for an echo. 4 weeks later ugh I was dying and finding out more about our situation an trying to find twin HLHS survivors but all the ones I found had passed and stopped updating I was very heart broken over this. I was losing hope and had decided that if we let him sleep in my tummy it would be easier then watching him die we still had one more ultra sound before we could decide. Finally the day came! I was so scared and nervous. As we were getting it done the doctors were talking in their doctor language and then they told us he didn't have HLHS we took a breath of fresh air for a moment and they proceeded to tell us he had double outlet right ventricle (DORV) plus other defects Heterotaxy being the worst yet he had higher chances of survival yay! As i went further along it got hard to walk and pick up my 20 month old son ad so we called upon our friends and family to help ... We had a few no shows before someone finally answered our call but she only could help for a few weeks again no help for awhile. We had gone for another ultra sound to find out again his heart condition wasn't what was previously thought an his chances went up for survival once more whoo hoo. At 33 weeks I had started labor and went to the hospital to stop it hopefully in time... An it worked sigh of relief again I stayed there for a whole week due to my whole family having the flu at home but went back home after 2 weeks I again started labor but this time they couldn't do anything so they sent me home to let it run it's course I was excited this time as I was able to have a VBAC (so I thought) a week passed and still no babies I had a scheduled ultra sound appoint on Jan 5 at 10 am we went and everything was looking good but every 3 minutes I had a contraction and the nurse didn't like the thought of sending me home so I stayed and 12+ hrs later doctor finally got them out via C-sec (A) Odin born at 11:02 pm 4 lbs 4 oz and (B) Griffen at 11:03 pm 5lbs 12 oz He had lasted almost a full 7 months before having to have an intervention but when he was 6 weeks old he had what's known as a Chylothorax (fat leaking into his lungs) and so our breast feeding journey had been put on hold for 6 weeks although they were long he was fine with taking a bottle. The day the 6 weeks were up I wanted to practice nursing with him and from that moment on he never looked at bottles the same and absolutely refused them made me so proud my heart baby could nurse. July 31 2012 he had his first open heart surgery and is doing great with a few hiccups with another Chylothorax but this time hes refusing all bottles so he must be fed by NG tube. His SATs are up and down but we are just waiting for him to get a bit better and off of oxygen to go home. If you are pregnant or TTC please be aware of Congenital heart defects (CHD) it happens to 1 in 100 babies it's that common. during your scans ask to see that all the ventricles look good and valves and heart is beating ok how do the lungs look ask questions always, after birth DEMAND to get a pulse oximetry test done before you go home!! Please and thank you for letting me share my sons story and raising awareness of CHD http://www.facebook.com/pages/Odin-heart-warrior/257919534288824?ref=stream |
