Lesson Six-- 10.15.2012
Spanking.
Everything I think you should know before you do it. [I dont mean the ocasional smack. I mean the only way you disaplin is smacking.]
*Fear- hitting a child makes them feel they can not come to you.
*Violence- Your child may learn smacking is an acceptable way to solve problems.
*Promotes anger & resentment- in both child and parents
*Memory- Sometimes the spanking Scars. Bring back hate when child grows up.
So how should you disaplin your child?
*If possible catch your child before the action. Ex. If your child is going to trow something they are not allowed. Thank it and tell them "no" You can say it may hurt so&so or it may break. [That is setting limits for a toddler] You may have to do this several times before they catch on.
*Desracting & redirection is the best ways to "disaplin" a child under two.
*Once a child is two it is a good time to introduce TimeOuts. Having them sit where they did wrong is "better" then having a place of punishment.
*Praise you child once he/she correct behavior. Show more attention to the good. Not the bad
